Initial Appointments
Child/Adolescent
Initial intakes for children/adolescents consist of a 1-hour parent-only meeting and a separate 1-hour meeting during which time I will first meet with your child and then discuss next steps in treatment you.
Meeting 1 (Parent-Only): The goal of the initial parent-only meeting is for us to lay the initial groundwork of the treatment process. Meeting with a psychiatrist for your child can feeling like a daunting step and my primary aim is to establish our working relationship so that you feel comfortable and understand the treatment process before I meet your child. During this first parent-only meeting, I will also gather important background information about your family and child, including relevant medical and psychiatric history, family and developmental history.
Between the first and 2nd meeting I aim to review any relevant reports/evaluations and connect with other clinicians you may be working with.
Meeting 2 (Child + Parents): During the 2nd meeting, I will meet with your child and toward the latter half I will discuss relevant preliminary diagnoses with you, and next steps of treatment, which may involve certain types of psychotherapy, medication, or other specialist referrals.
Adult
Initial adult psychiatric evaluations are 1-hour long. During this initial touch point, we will explore your presenting concerns as well as relevant medical, psychiatric, and family history. Toward the end of this meeting, we will discuss preliminary diagnoses and recommendations for medications, psychotherapy or other referrals. We may choose to schedule more time for this intake process to gain a deeper understanding of your unique situation.
Note: I am also available to schedule a 30 minute pre-evaluation consultation if you are not sure whether you wish to proceed with an intake.
